Single? And ready to mingle? Well, dating online seems to be one of the safest and fun ways to spice up your romantic life during a pandemic. And considering that the younger generation is ready to hook-up immediately after their break-up, signups on many online dating apps/websites have gone up massively. In fact, various online dating apps have seen a surge in signups considering ‘self-quarantine’ has become a forced ‘fact of life’. And one such leading dating app in the country, QuackQuack has found a new addition of 280,000 users in August as compared to 200,000 users in the month of June, a massive 40% growth in user base based on their internal data.
Gone are the days when people from big metro cities would mostly opt for dating online. And youths from bigger cities were more online savvy, but that’s not the case anymore. Looks like smart and tech savvy lovers are found anywhere and everywhere these days. As compared to QuackQuack’s data from the earlier months, it looks like there’s a gradual shift in users from smaller cities. The new users sign up ratio for the month of August was 30% in metros cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai, while 70% from tier-2 cities like Agra, Indore, Jammu and Bhopal among others. So it’s clear that there are more users coming from smaller cities/towns. Well, not bad!
Moreover, some of the top tier-2 cities like Jaipur, Jammu, Agra, Indore, Surat, Bhopal and Ludhiana among others have seen major growth in online dating users.
“Looks like social distancing, self-quarantine and ‘be home, be safe’ has been taken seriously by many Indians and it’s a good practice. The usage of dating apps has increased big time to kill boredom,” says Ravi Mittal, CEO of QuackQuack and he goes on to add, “What we’ve seen from the ratio is that online dating has made its place in smaller cities and towns of our country as well. And for good it has been accepted too, whereas earlier people from bigger cities would mostly indulge in online dating and smaller towns were lagging behind. That’s not the case anymore. Smaller cities are rocking now for good.”
Moreover, even smaller towns like Kendrapara (Odisha), Haldia (West Bengal), Chittorgarh (Rajasthan), Nadiad (Gujarat) have found a place in the ‘dating map’. All we can say is that love can be found anywhere – bigger or smaller places don’t matter.
