Thiruvananthapuram:  Chandrabose (45) was on Monday sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 1 lakh for attempting to sell 24 kg of cannabis in the state capital. While delivering the sentence Thiruvananthapuram Sixth Additional Sessions Judge KN Ajith Kumar said that the accused will have to remain in jail for one more month if he does not pay the fine.

Following a tip-off the Thiruvananthapuram Excise Enforcement Anti-Narcotics Cell arrested Chandrabose on 20-6-2012 near Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station around 7 pm with cannabis in a trolley bag.  On searching the bag the Excise officials unearthed six packets of cannabis, each weighing 4 kg, wrapped in polythene.

Chandrabose, who was released on bail in 2012, absconded without appearing in court during the trial. In 2020, the accused was taken into custody by the Excise Enforcement and remanded in judicial custody.

Public Prosecutor M Salahuddin appeared for the prosecution.
