Textiles sec should focus on improving quality:VP

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has said that the textiles sector should focus on improving quality and on tapping opportunities in global market to increase India’s share in exports. He was addressing the gathering after presenting awards at National Conclave -Accomplishment and Way Forward for textiles sector in New Delhi. Mr Naidu said, this is the ideal time for the industry to discard outdated technology and modernize its machinery to be globally competitive. 

He stressed on the need of innovation and adoption of new technology in the sector. Mr Naidu said, Ministry of Textiles has made significant policy initiatives and schemes for the textiles sector, which has benefited all stakeholders. The Vice President said the country has recently achieved a great feat of becoming the 6th largest economy in the world. 

He said the country has jumped more than 50 ranks up on the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ Index in the last two years which shows that significant changes are taking place in the Indian business environment. He said the improved ranking in Ease of Doing Business is expected to generate more business and attract FDI into India.
  
The Vice President also conferred the awards-thread of excellence on 17 persons for their outstanding contribution in the field of textiles sector. Union Textiles Minister, Smriti Irani and Minister of State for Textiles Ajay Tamta were present on the occasion.
