Patiala : As global conversations around artificial intelligence continue to shape the future of science, healthcare, and climate research, leading universities are increasingly turning to international partnerships to accelerate discovery and innovation.
At the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in Patiala, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET) highlighted its growing engagement in global research collaborations through a partnership with Imperial College London. The centerpiece of this collaboration is the development of next-generation physics-based AI foundational models. Unlike traditional monitoring, these models create a “digital twin” of Northern India’s atmosphere to simulate and predict pollution dynamics with unprecedented accuracy. By combining international scientific expertise with regional research insights, the collaboration aims to create scalable tools that can support more informed climate and environmental policy decisions.
Reflecting on the collaboration, Dr. Padmakumar Nair, Vice Chancellor, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, emphasized the importance of international academic partnerships in shaping the future of research and innovation.
“Universities flourish when ideas travel freely across borders. Artificial Intelligence is not merely a technological revolution; it is also a revolution in collaboration. The most meaningful advances will emerge when universities across the world combine their intellectual strengths, diverse perspectives, and scientific curiosity.
At Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, we believe that the future of research and education lies in building bridges where institutions work together not just to produce knowledge, but to create solutions for humanity. In that spirit, I look forward to deepening this collaboration in the years ahead.”
For Thapar Institute, participation in the AI summit reflects its growing engagement with the international research community and its commitment to contributing to global discussions on responsible AI innovation. Building on this global outlook, TIET has established extensive collaborations with leading universities and industry partners worldwide, supporting research, credit transfer programs and specialized academic initiatives. The institute has developed academic partnerships with institutions such as Trinity College Dublin and the University of Groningen, alongside industry collaborations including the AI School developed in partnership with NVIDIA.
By combining regional expertise with international scientific collaboration, Thapar Institute aims to advance innovation in areas such as artificial intelligence, climate science, and digital technologies while contributing to solutions that address some of the most pressing global challenges.
