Congress leader Rahul Gandhi paid homage to the mortal remains of former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi here on Wednesday and said Gogoi was his guru. Gandhi said Gogoi’s demise is a personal loss for him. Tarun Gogoi breathed his last on Monday, after which the Congress was mourned. On Wednesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also reached Guwahati and paid homage to the former CM. After coming to Guwahati by a special aircraft from Goa, Gandhi directly reached Srimanta Shankardev Kalakshetra where the mortal remains of Gogoi have been kept for the final darshan of the people. He paid floral tributes to Gogoi, while the son of the departed Congress leader was present.
Tarun Gogoi’s funeral is to be held on 26th November, before his earthly body has been kept for final darshan in Guwahati. I think Gogoi ji was not the only leader of Assam, “Gandhi said. He was the best chief minister and a national level leader. He had done the work of making the people of Assam one and establishing peace in the state. His visit is a personal loss for me. Rahul Gandhi says, the name of Tarun Gogoi’s son is gaurav, but he (Tarun Gogoi) has treated me as a son. Behaved like a son. Rahul said Tarun Gogoi was a teacher. He was a guru for him. He learnt a lot from the former chief minister of Assam. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced a three-day state mourning in honour of former chief minister Tarun Gogoi. Assam government officials have said that the funeral of former chief minister Tarun Gogoi will be held at Navagraha Crematorium with national honour. The Government of Assam has made full arrangements for the funeral with full state honours.
