Thiruvananthapuram Division celebrated World Environment Day today by organising various events emphasizing environmental awareness and sustainability.
The celebrations commenced with the #LifeMission pledge administered by Dr. Manish Thaplyal, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), and flagging off of an awareness rally at the DRM’s office, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram. Smt. Viji M.R., Additional Divisional Railway Manager, along with senior officers and staff, attended the program. The rally saw enthusiastic participation from railway personnel, Safai Karmachari staff, St. John’s Ambulance Brigade, and Student Police Cadets from Govt. GHSS Pattom, concluding at Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station.

At Platform No. 1, KG students from New India English Medium Public School, Vembayam, and Vrindavan School of Kindergarten, Peyad, showcased innovative concepts on reducing plastic usage through a memorable exhibition on plastic reuse. DRM inaugurated the exhibition and interacted with the little kids. This was followed by a vibrant dance performance on biodiversity by students from University College Thiruvananthapuram.
The DRM also delivered the World Environment Day message and distributed tree saplings to staff and student volunteers. The Medical Branch of Thiruvananthapuram Division conducted a special cleanliness and beautification drive at Pettah Railway Station, rejuvenating the station garden. A pledge-taking ceremony was also held at the Divisional Railway Hospital, Pettah.
Special drives were organized at all major stations in the division with the “Beat Plastic Pollution” message. These collective efforts highlight the division’s commitment to fostering environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
