Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy has appealed to the striking employees to return to their duties immediately.

The staff and teachers under the umbrella body called Joint Action Committee of Tamil Nadu Teachers Organizations and Government Employees Organizations JACTTO-GEO are on strike since the 22nd last month.

They have given a nine-point charter of demands including restoring old pension scheme and giving the seventh pay commission arrears.

Meanwhile, Mr Palaniswamy has said in a statement, Tamil Nadu has implemented the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission within a month of receiving the report, though it costs the exchequer over 14,500 crore rupees per annum.

He has said, increase in salary is also being made periodically despite the state facing financial stress. He has pointed out, some of the states do not announce a hike in dearness allowance, while some others have not been able to even give the salary in time.

Stating that it is the duty of the staff to be mindful of the overall development of the state, he has appealed to the striking staff to resume work.

Meanwhile, the state education department claims, 97 per cent of the teachers have resumed their work as on Tuesday and 1257 have been suspended.
