Training on tobacco free educational atmosphere in Assam’s Mangaldai College

Mangaldai  :  In a bid to educate the teachers and students of Mangaldai College on the adverse effect of tobacco consumption and a tobacco free atmosphere in educational institutions, the district tobacco control cell ,  under the district health society,Darrang in association with the internal quality assessment cell (IQAC) of the college on Friday has organized a training programme  for the teachers and students of the institution.  Dr Nirmal Kumar Beria,  nodal officer district tobacco control cell, Dr Budhin Chandra Hazarika, Principal Kharupetia College and Dr Kamala Kanta Borah, Associate Professor of the college as the speakers discussed about many relevant things including serious health hazards caused by tobacco , growing threat of non smoke tobacco products among younger generation, various punitive provisions under Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) Act 2003 and need of public awareness on tobacco burden among others. Earlier Dr Khagendra Kumar Nath, Principal Mangaldai College delivered his welcome address.  A similar kind of training programme for the teachers of the government run secondary level institutions of the district was also conducted here by the tobacco control cell a few days back .
