Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi focuses on all round development of North East: Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu

Guwahati: Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu today stressed that the Union Government is focused on promoting all round development of the North Eastern Region. Various progressive measures taken by the Government will help Assam and other North Eastern States to scale higher heights of progress and development in future.
The Vice President was addressing a function after presenting the ‘Popular Gopinath Bordoloi Award for National Integration and Contribution’ to the three winners. Eminent writer and scholar Nirode Kumar Baruah, members of Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust and members of Shillong Chamber Choir were present at the event in Guwahati. Paying heartfelt tributes to freedom fighter and assam’s first Chief Minister, popular Gopinath Bordoloi, the Vice President said that he was one of the makers of modern India. He said the popular Gopinath Bordoloi was a visionary leader whose unique contribution to protecting India’s integrity and sovereignty at a difficult time of partition deserves a special mention. Vice President Naidu said the popular Gopinath Bordoloi politician-like personality had divine charm and people from all communities, sects and political ideologies looked at him. Congratulating the awardees, Naidu said That Nirod Kumar Baruah had come from Germany.
“Baruah ji’s outstanding contribution is in introducing the popular Gopinath Bordoloi to the larger international audience through his valuable research work and books. He appreciated the members of Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust, Assam Branch for their outstanding contribution to the reconstruction of the lives of rural women and children through their initiative. Congratulating the members of Shillong Chamber Choir for this significant achievement, he said it is a special recognition of their contribution to national unity through music and culture. “Music and culture can promote national unity, especially when divisive forces are trying to undermine the country,” the Vice President said. The need of the hour is to promote peace and make the country strong and prosperous”. The Vice President emphasized that the Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is focused on the need to promote all round development of the North Eastern Region.
“The efforts made in the last seven and a half years show that development, peace and prosperity are the top priority for the Central Government. The Vice President gave the example of the historic Karbi Anglong Agreement that concludes the decades-old crisis and ensures the territorial integrity of Assam. He expressed confidence that Assam would be a shining example of development in the North East. Naidu also mentioned the central government’s special emphasis on improving air connectivity in the North Eastern Region.
