The UN Security Council has granted an exemption from sanctions to North and South Korea to jointly conduct a survey on reconnecting railways across their border.

Last month, the two Koreas had agreed to start the survey and hold groundbreaking ceremony sometime between late November and early December, as the countries pursue a reconciliation drive.

Spokesman for the presidential House in Seoul, Kim Eui-Gyeom, said, it is significant that the project has received support from the United States and the International community. He further said, the process will take inter-Korean cooperation to a new level.
