UP govt to light 21 lakh diyas on Deepotsav

Lucknow: In Uttar Pradesh, Ayodhya is all set to hold a grand ‘Deepotsav’ today on the eve of Diwali. The State government will aim for the sixth Guinness World Record by lighting 21 lakh diyas today at 51 ghats of Ayodhya, including the Ram Ki Paidi. People can also participate virtually in Deepotsav through the Holy Ayodhya” mobile app. Governor Anandiben Patel, CM Yogi Adityanath, both the Deputy CM and several other cabinet ministers will grace the event. As part of the celebration, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Path is also being decorated with different types of flowers.

Akashvani correspondent reports that to ensure that people in the city can enjoy the seventh Deepotsav, 24 LED vans have been placed at different locations. People from across the world can also participate online in Ayodhya’s Deepotsav by the “Holy Ayodhya” mobile app. Users can download the app, and book one to 51 diyas in their name. The district administration will review the applications received on the app and arrange for the diyas to be lit accordingly. The cost varies, with a single diya priced at 101 rupees, 251 rupees for 11 diyas, 501 rupees for 21 diyas, and 1,100 rupees for 51 diyas, payable online.

Since 2017, Deepotsav has been making a new record. 1.71 lakh lamps were lit in the first Deepotsav event held in 2017. In 2018, 3.01 lakh lamps were lit, 4.04 lakh in 2019, 6.06 lakh in 2020, and 9.41 lakh in 2021, and 15.76 lamps were lit in Deepotsav 2022. Last year the event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
