New Delhi : Uttar Pradesh will launch one of the country’s largest plantation drives on World Environment Day with a target of planting 5 crore saplings across the state under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will lead the initiative from Lucknow.

Reviewing preparations for the campaign, the Chief Minister directed officials to ensure adequate availability of saplings, geo-tagging of plantations, and effective arrangements for their protection. He emphasized that the campaign should serve not only as an environmental conservation initiative but also as a symbol of respect for motherhood and sensitivity towards nature.

The plantation drive forms part of a broader public participation campaign being organized to mark 12 years of the Government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The statewide outreach programme will run from World Environment Day on June 5 through International Yoga Day on June 21.

The Chief Minister said that environmental protection should be transformed into a mass movement and directed all Gram Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies to work towards becoming single-use plastic-free. He called for active participation from all sections of society in environmental conservation efforts.

As part of the public engagement campaign, ministers and public representatives will interact with citizens across districts, hold chaupal meetings, conduct padyatras, and engage with intellectuals, academicians, doctors, engineers, entrepreneurs, industrialists, and other stakeholders. Discussions will focus on achievements in governance, infrastructure, investment, employment, and public welfare, while also seeking public feedback and suggestions.

The Chief Minister also directed that cleanliness drives be undertaken as a special public campaign during this period. Public welfare camps and health fairs will be organized at the block level from June 14 to 16 to connect eligible beneficiaries with government schemes. Exhibitions highlighting district-specific achievements and infrastructure development will also be held.

To strengthen grassroots engagement, ministers, public representatives, and senior officials will conduct night chaupals and stay overnight in rural areas to better understand local challenges and ensure effective resolution of public grievances.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the period from June 5 to June 21 presents an important opportunity to take the vision of Viksit Bharat and Viksit Uttar Pradesh to every citizen through meaningful dialogue, public participation, and collective action.
