Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award-2021 to Dr Abhay Bang of Maharashtra

KOKRAJHAR: Dr Abhay Bang, a Public Health and Tribal Rights activist of Maharashtra has been named for the 18th Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award-2021.

The Upendra Nath Brahma Trust (UNBT) announced the name for the award on Monday in recognition of his immense contributions towards the downtrodden communities.

In a press statement, chairman of Upendra Nath Brahma Trust, Dr Subung Basumatary said that the trust is pleased to declare the name of Dr. Abhay Bang a public health and tribal rights activist for his immense contribution towards improving the health care systems of tribes in remote Gadchiroli district of Maharastra. 

“The eminent jury entrusted with selecting an awardee for this years’ Bodofa UNB Soldier of Humanity Award 2021, has selected Dr. Abhay Bang in recognition to his immense contribution towards the upliftment of health of backward tribes in Maharastra in particular and contribution towards improving public health scenario in general by his direct field intervention, research, writing and training. His deeds towards promoting humanity are unmatchable. He has not only won several prestigious awards but also has won hearts and minds of people across the world. We are so grateful to him for accepting the 18th Bodofa UNB Soldier of Humanity Award 2021”, the statement read.

Dr Bang and his wife Dr Rani Bang has been rendering humanity services by founding a non-profit-organisation, Society for Education, Action and Research in Community Health (SEARCH) for ensuring affordable access to healthcare for downtrodden communities in the nation.

The award would be conferred to Dr Bang on 13th November at a programme in Kokrajhar. The award consists of a cash Rs. One lakh, a momento, citation and indigenous eri shawl.
