US announces framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon for lasting peace

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced a US-mediated framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon aimed at achieving lasting peace and security. The proposed deal includes a ceasefire, contingent on Hezbollah halting all attacks and withdrawing from southern Lebanon.

In a post on social media, the US Department of State said the agreement had been reached between sovereign government of Lebanon and the government of Israel with the mediation and support of the United States. Announcing the framework, Rubio described the agreement as the “first step” toward restoring stability, while acknowledging that the path ahead would be challenging but equally vital. 

Lebanon’s Ambassador to the US Nada Hamadeh thanked the leaders for hosting the talks. Lebanon’s Ambassador to the US, Nada Hamadeh, welcomed the initiative, and Israel’s Ambassador to the US, Yechiel Leiter, called it a historic development. He also noted Israel Defense Forces for their efforts against Iran-backed groups.
