Vedanta Power Steps Up Young Talent Push to Build Power Leaders for India’s Next Energy Growth Phase
New Delhi: As India places its young workforce at the heart of its journey towards Viksit Bharat, Vedanta Power continues to strengthen its focus on creating opportunities for young talent to learn, lead and make an impact as the next generation of power leaders. With 56% of its workforce below the age of 35, Vedanta Power sees young professionals as a critical part of building the capabilities required for a rapidly evolving power industry. The company’s approach combines campus hiring, structured learning, leadership guidance, cross-functional development and opportunities for early ownership to gain exposure to real-world operations and develop the capabilities needed to contribute meaningfully to India’s growth story.
As part of this strategy, the company has recently onboarded 54 campus hires, of whom 57% are women, bringing fresh talent and diverse perspectives into the power sector. The young professionals, from premier institutes across India, represent a range of domains including engineering, technical functions, human resources, communications, finance, commercial, ESG and CSR. Campus recruitment continues to be an important channel for bringing emerging skills and new perspectives into the organisation.
Speaking about the programme, Mr. Rajinder Singh Ahuja, Chief Executive Officer, Vedanta Power, said, “India’s power growth story is entering a new phase. We are not only going to need more power, but people who can operate complex assets, adopt new technologies, improve efficiency and respond to an increasingly dynamic energy landscape. At Vedanta, building capacity and building capability go hand in hand. Our young professionals will be an important part of that journey. We want to give them exposure to the business, access to experienced leaders and the opportunity to take ownership early, so they can grow into the power leaders who will shape the next chapter of India’s power sector.”
As part of this approach, Vedanta Power conducted AAROHAN – The Rise of Power, its first 4 day long structured induction programme for young professionals joining the organisation. The programme brought together new employees through leadership interactions, business sessions, functional learning and operational exposure, while providing them with a broader understanding of the organisation and the power sector.
The programme featured interactions with senior leadership and department heads, giving participants an understanding of Vedanta Power’s businesses, functions and organisational priorities. With participants from diverse domains such as engineering, technical functions, HR, communications, finance, commercial, ESG and CSR, the programme also provided an opportunity for young professionals to gain a broader understanding of the interconnected functions that support Vedanta Power’s operations. The sessions were complemented by an immersive plant visit, enabling participants to connect their learning with real-world operations and gain firsthand exposure to the processes, technologies and people supporting large-scale power generation.
Vedanta Power’s talent strategy is therefore focused on developing professionals with both deep functional expertise and a broader understanding of the business and the sector. The initiative came at a time when India’s power sector is undergoing significant transformation, with technological advancement, changing energy requirements and increasingly complex power systems creating demand for professionals with strong technical capabilities, business understanding and adaptability.
Through leadership engagement, structured learning and exposure to business operations, Vedanta Power seeks to help young employees build confidence, broaden their understanding and take greater ownership from the early stages of their careers. The company’s people strategy is anchored in the belief that building the power infrastructure of tomorrow requires sustained investment in the people who could operate, innovate and lead it. Through structured talent programmes, campus engagement, leadership interaction and opportunities for early responsibility, Vedanta Power remains focused on developing a workforce equipped to contribute to India’s evolving energy landscape and its broader growth ambitions.
