Seoul : Walter Cho, Chairman and CEO of Korean Air and Hanjin Group, has been named the 2026 Asia Airline Executive of the Year by CAPA – Centre for Aviation.
The award was presented at the 2026 CAPA Airline Leader Summit Asia, held from October 1 to 2 at New Chitose Airport in Sapporo, Japan. CAPA, a provider of aviation market intelligence, annually recognizes industry executives based on strategic decision-making and business impact.
The panel cited Cho’s strategic management during the pandemic and highlighted his role in overseeing the integration of Korean Air and Asiana Airlines. Cho has managed the complex consolidation process ahead of the unified airline’s scheduled launch on December 17.
The award reflects Cho’s broader influence and commitment to strategic collaboration within the global aviation sector. He has previously served as Chairman of the SkyTeam Alliance Board and maintains an active role on the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Board of Governors.

“We are delighted to recognize Walter Cho as our Asia Airline Executive of the Year,” said Marco Navarria, Senior Director Content & Marketing at CAPA. “His visionary leadership has been transformative not only for the airline but for the region as a whole. Walter’s commitment to strategic partnerships and collaboration exemplifies the forward-thinking approach our industry needs. This is a well-deserved recognition of his exceptional impact on regional and global aviation.”
Cho also participated in a one-on-one interview to share industry insights with global aviation leaders and media representatives. During the session, he outlined the strategic blueprint for the integrated airline and detailed the enhanced passenger benefits to come.
This latest accolade adds to a series of global leadership recognitions for Walter Cho. In 2023, he received the Air Transport World (ATW) Excellence in Leadership Award, and was named Korea Executive of the Year by the Korean Academic Society of Business Administration in 2024.
