The West Bengal Governor Jagdip Dhankar has justified his visit to Jadavpur University in Kolkata on Thursday to rescue Union Minister Babul Supriyo from gherao by the students. The Governor said in a statement, that he visited the university as its Chancellor.
He expressed serious concern over the Gherao adding that the incident was a serious reflection on law and order situation in the state and also on the conduct of law enforcing agencies. The Governor spoke to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee about the incident. Meanwhile, the Governor’s visit to the university has triggered political controversy in the state.
The Trinamool Congress leader Partha Chattarjee criticized the visit saying the Governor went to the university without informing the State Government. The Governor asserted that he did inform the Chief Minister about the visit.
