World Environment Day in Covid hit village of Darrang district

Mangaldai :: World Environment Day has been observed in Darrang district on June 5 in a restricted manner due to the prevailing Covid pandemic situation. Local voluntary organization Crystal Vision on the occasion conducted a plantation as well as an awareness programme at Covid hit Daksaki- Mazgaon village under Dalgaon Revenue Circle of the district .

 Several local Covid survivors including septagenarian Nagen Saharia also took part in the observation along with the office bearers and members of local public organizations like Srimanta Sankardev Namghar management committee and Mazgaon Kristi Bikash Kendra. Earlier president of Crystal Vision Mayukh Goswami in the present day context of severe paucity of artificial oxygen, explained the importance of growing green plants which release oxygen to the environment and absorb carbon dioxide . Office bearers and members of Crystal Vision, Namghar management committee and Srimanta Sankardev Kristi Bikash Kendra including Manmohan Deka , Sabin Deka , Dulal Deka , Nakul Deka and Basanta Deka were also present on the occasion .

It may be mentioned here a part of the Mazgaon village was earlier notified as the containment zone for community spread of Covid 19 and it has been withdrawn recently On the other hand the Pacific unit of district nodal agency , NGC, Darrang and Science for Social Welfare of Assam conducted a webinar on the topic –ecological restoration , how to conserve water bodies , wetlands and global warming . Several speakers including Dr Debashree Kakati , Assistant Professor , Department of Botany , Mangaldai college , Narayan Saharia , president of Pacific unit and Bidyut Deka , coordinator of the Nodal Agency, NGC , Darrang among others discussed the top in the webinar .
