1,000 police and CRPF deployed in lumding forest for Assam Government eviction drive

GUWAHATI : The Assam government has deployed 1000 police and CRPF personnel to evacuate settlers from lumding reserve forest in Hozai district of Assam. The government will reportedly remove about 500 of the 1,410 hectares of encroached forest land today. As per the gauhati high court order, the government will vacate 1,410 hectares of encroached land in a phased manner. According to the report, Hozai Deputy Commissioner Anupam Chaudhary has said that at present the situation in the area is normal and about 99 per cent of the families have already left after consultations by the district administration to leave the place. Hozai Superintendent of Police Barun Pukayastha said about 1,000 police and CRPF personnel have been deployed. Chaudhary further said that at present, there are now less than 1 per cent of families who will leave home by Monday.
