Dimapur: Nagaland government managed to bring back 13,594 returnees to the state since the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
Commissioner and secretary and chief nodal officer for inter-state movement of stranded persons Dinesh Kumar said this during the release of the report on the inter-state movement of stranded persons at the secretariat conference hall in Kohima today. The report was released by principal secretary (home) Abhijit Sinha.
Kumar said 34 special buses, 12 Shramik Special trains, covering a distance of 1,02,555 km in 28 days, were utilised to facilitate return of the stranded people. He said four additional zones were created to aid in the inter-state movement and added that around 14,600 calls were made to stranded people by the zonal teams in order to facilitate their inter-state movements.
He also stated that Nagaland has created history by arranging the Shramik Special trains covering the longest train route of 4322 km in the country during the period.
Sinha congratulated the working group on Covid-19 headed by Kumar for successfully conducting the exercise assigned to them. He stated that a lot of effort was put in to bring back the stranded persons from outside the State and appreciated the team for documentation of the process.
He said the State government had managed to bring back most of the stranded persons who wanted to return, which gave a sense of satisfaction to the officers and staff of the team.
Giving a brief introduction of the report, Kumar said tremendous amount of efforts has gone in the facilitation of the inter-state movement of the people of state stranded in other states and people of other states stranded in Nagaland wishing to return to their home states.
“The documentation is an attempt to place on paper the journey of the working group set up by the Nagaland government to alleviate the issues faced by the stranded persons and facilitate their movement back to their homes safely,” he added.
Kumar thanked his team for their support and for making the exercise possible.
The working group also presented a copy of the report to chief secretary Jan E Alam in his office chamber today.
