Dimapur: The Eastern Naga Students Federation (ENSF) on Friday temporarily suspended its ongoing indefinite agitation in five eastern districts of Nagaland.
President of the federation Sepili L Sangtam and assistant general secretary Khomo P, in a release said the agitation has been temporarily suspended owing to presidential meeting of its six federating units – Confederation of Chang Students’ Union, Khaimniungan Students’ Union, Konyak Students’ Union, Phom Students’ Conference, United Sangtam Students’ Conference and Yimchunger Akheru Arih-Ako – scheduled to be held at ENSF headquarters in Tuensang.
However, the federation said the indefinite agitation will resume anytime as and when it directs. The ENSF directed the federating units to reach Tuensang by tomorrow for the presidential emergency meeting. It also requested all its advisers and former senior leaders to reach Tuensang.
The federation began its third phase agitation today to press for its demands with regard to the Nagaland Staff Selection Board and Nagaland Public Service Commission.
The apex student body of Nagaland expressed dismay that in spite of the agitation entering the fifth day, which included four days of second phase strike, the government was giving a cold shoulder to its demands, which only showed how concerned it is and how it has succeeded in depriving the eastern Nagas of their rights time and again.
It said the first day of its third phase agitation today passed off peacefully and successfully. District administration, sub-division and other state government offices in all the five districts were locked and movement of government registered vehicles was restricted by the six federating units at respective headquarters during the day.
The federation extended its gratitude to the six federating units for their continued support and cooperation for the cause.
