The surge in COVID -19 cases continued in Telangana with 983 fresh positive cases reporting yesterday alone. With this the number of total Coronavirus positive cases in the state has gone up to 14,419. Positive cases have been shooting up for the past ten days ever since the State government initiated for testing 50 thousand samples to gauge the prevalence of the disease. With the discharge of another 244 patients, the total number of persons recovered from the COVID-19 has also increased to 5, 172 in the state.
Out of the fresh cases reported yesterday, 816 cases reported from the Hyderabad municipality area while Rangareddy district accounted for 47 and Manchiryal accounted for 33. Medchal Malkajgiri district accounted for 29 while remaining cases were reported from various other districts. Meanwhile, 4 more died, taking the total deaths relating to COVID 19 and other co-morbidities in the state to 247.
Meanwhile, the Central team led by Joint Secretary in Union Health Ministry, Lav Agarwal reached Hyderabad last evening. The team examined the situation at Dhobi Galli in Domalguda in the city. The team will be meeting senior officials of the health department and also of GHMC to enquire about the Covid situation in the State and spike in cases in GHMC limits. It is likely to visit Gandhi hospital and other isolation centres in the city today.
The team will be coordinating with the State to strengthen ongoing efforts in management of Covid-19. It consists of public health experts, epidemiologists, clinicians. The team is coming off to Telangana after visiting Gujarat and Maharashtra. It may be recalled that the Centre has sent the teams to these states in view of big surge in cases in these States.
