CBI arrests five including executive director of Power Grid on corruption charges

GUWAHATI : The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested five, including an executive director of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd, Itanagar and executive vice-chairman and head (transmission and distribution) of a Noida (Uttar Pradesh)-based private company. A case was registered against an executive director, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd, Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh) and others, including a Noida (Uttar Pradesh)-based private company and its executive vice-president and head (transmission and distribution), the CBI official said in Guwahati on Monday.

Cases were registered against  Assistant Vice President and Business Head- Distribution, RPM, two employees and unknown others. It was alleged that the public servant was involved in favouring the said private company for various functions in a conspiracy with others. Preparation of inflated bills relating to contracts of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited in lieu of acceptance of demand and illegal gratification, speedy clearing of bills, PVC (Price Variation Clause) etc.

It was further alleged that the said company has received tenders for a comprehensive scheme for Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited. Searches were conducted at 11 premises of the accused at Gurugram, Noida and Ghaziabad in which several incriminating documents, materials, digital devices etc. were recovered. A cash amount of Rs. 93 lakhs (approximately) was recovered from the residence of the Executive Director. The arrested accused were today produced before the court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Panchkula (Haryana) and remanded in police custody till 15.07.2022.
