A ‘Handbook on Cyber Security’ from Assam Police

GUWAHATI : The Assam Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has release a book on ‘Cyber Security & Awareness’ titled Cyber Secure today on November 23, 2021 at Assam Police Headquarters at 11.00 am. This has been followed by a daylong review meeting at the same venue. In todays world, due to high internet penetration, cyber security is one of the biggest need of the hour as cyber security threats are very dangerous to the country’s security. Moreover, as we head into the era of 5th Generation Warfare, know-how of the nuances of cyber security gains significance.

It is only through awareness among people that cyber crimes can be prevented and with a view to create awareness about safe use of cyberspace among netizens, Special Branch  of  Assam Police have taken the initiative of publishing a booklet names Cyber Secure on Cyber Safety. This booklet covers almost all the aspects of cyber safety, do’s and don’ts by the netizens and how to report a cybercrime to the LEAs. 2. This Hand Book covers most common Cyber crimes to the latest Cyber frauds like Fast Tag frauds. Common Cyber Threats like Phishing Fraud, Online Job Fraud, Card Fraud, KYC Fraud, Card Skimming, SIM Swap Fraud, Romance Fraud, Matrimonial Fraud, Loan Fraud, Lottery Fraud, Identity Fraud etc are covered in this book and different safety measures for each one of them has been beautifully described with diagrams for ease of knowing by people at large. 3. Assam Police so far has taken different measures for Cyber safety of general public like awareness programme, training, helpline for reporting cyber crime etc.

 Most important initiative taken recently by Assam Police through CID Assam is the opening up of a toll free no. 155260 as per the initiatives taken by MHA, Govt. Of India under Indian Cyber Crime Co-ordination Centre(I4C) where any victim can give information about ¬financial frauds within 24 hrs. of commission of such a crime where cyber criminal illegally siphoned o money from their bank a/c, wallet or any other payment gateway. CID, Assam also has a state of art CCPWC lab which is specially designed to deal with Cyber Crimes related to Women and Children. Assam Police has also started AP Cyberdome Project to deal with the increasing cyber crimes.Taking part in a day long deliberation at Assam Police Headquarters in Guwahati with top officials today ~ a step towards transforming Assam Police into a smarter police force. Launched a ‘Handbook on Cyber Security’ on the occasion. Modernisation of the police force, improving conviction rate, case disposal, expedient public service delivery, responsive & sensitive policing, efficient intelligence gathering are on the agenda, among other important issues.
