GUWAHATI : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Assam leader as well as the Indian Police Service (IPS) officer absconded in Assam for a multi-crore rupee scam for the 587 posts of police sub-inspector. Soon after the case surfaced, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who holds the Home Ministry, directed the police to conduct a detailed investigation and apprehend the culprits responsible for the leak.The Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has registered an FIR and is investigating. Police teams conducted raids at five hotels in Guwahati, which were allegedly carried out by retired Deputy Inspector General of Assam Police (DIG) PK Dutta as well as his residence in Hengbari area of the city.

The list has been recovered from the hospital drawer. According to reports, an amount of Rs 20-25 lakh has been taken from each candidate. The investigation into the leaking of the question paper for the recruitment of SI (unarmed branch) of Assam Police has turned into a high-voltage drama in the name of former DIG PK Dutta, who is currently involved in the scam.Since Thursday evening, the police’s Criminal Investigation Department has been conducting a search operation in two units of Datta’s residence in Hengbari area as well as Hotel Bhargava Grand in Lokhara and Betukuchi of the city.
