AGP leader’s house attacked with petrol bomb, probe begins

GUWAHATI : In Assam, unidentified miscreants hurled petrol bombs at the house of an Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader and educationist at Pathshala in Bajli district. The miscreants hurled petrol bombs at the house of AGP leader Ranjit Deka around 9pm on Friday. Deka, who contested the last election to the Assam Assembly from Bhabanipur constituency on a Ticket to AGP, runs an Anandram Barua Academy, a prestigious private educational institution at Pathshala. His family members were present at the time of the incident when Deka was outside.

Top police officials including Superintendent of Police (SP) Dharmendra Das visited the spot and conducted a preliminary inquiry. According to reports, at around 9.30 pm, an unidentified person called Deka’s wife and asked her to meet their demands. It is not immediately known what people had demanded from Deka’s family.About half an hour after the incident, a Hindi-speaking person called me from an unknown number and asked me to meet their demands,” Said Deka’s wife Nandita Burman. When I asked him what his demands were, the caller replied that he would call me back and end the call.
