Visakhapatnam: AIG Hospitals has on Monday inaugurated construction of a transformative, greenfield multispeciality hospital in Visakhapatnam, with clinical operations commencing in October 2028. The foundation stone was laid by Sri Nara Lokesh, Minister for Human Resource Development, Information Technology, Electronics & Communications and Real Time Governance, Government of Andhra Pradesh.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Sri Ayyannapatrudu Chintakayala, Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly; Sri Bharat Muthukumilli, Member of Parliament representing Visakhapatnam; and Sri Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Member of the Legislative Assembly, Bheemili.
A Two-Phase, Comprehensive Campus
The sprawling facility will be developed across two phases, encompassing the primary hospital campus and an affiliated nursing college. Phase 1—comprising Towers A and B with 650 beds—is scheduled for completion in October 2028. Phase 2 will introduce Tower C with an additional 350 beds over the subsequent two to three years, culminating in a 1,000-bed integrated campus. The complex will integrate a nursing college, paramedic training institute, state-of-the-art research laboratory, artificial intelligence centre, and a 500-seat academic auditorium—creating a comprehensive healthcare and academic ecosystem.
Clinical Excellence Anchored in Research and Education
Dr. D Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman of AIG Hospitals, articulated the vision: “Throughout our three decades of practice, we have recognized that clinical excellence flourishes only when sustained by rigorous academic engagement and robust research infrastructure. The research laboratory and academic facilities are not peripheral additions—they form the foundational core of this project. Our vision for Visakhapatnam is to establish a fully integrated ecosystem, architected for the future.”
Advanced Medical Infrastructure
The hospital will encompass more than 50 medical and surgical specialties, supported by cutting-edge clinical infrastructure: modular operating suites, state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization laboratories, advanced endoscopic facilities, 150 comprehensive critical care beds, and a 50-bed emergency department designed for rapid response. The outpatient complex is engineered to accommodate approximately 5,000 consultations daily.
A dedicated Mother and Child Centre—featuring 120 beds, including a 15-bed neonatal intensive care unit, advanced birthing facilities, and comprehensive pediatric services—will serve as a cornerstone of maternal and neonatal care.

Dr. Reddy further emphasized: “An undertaking of this magnitude demands a state genuinely committed to progressive healthcare innovation. Under Andhra Pradesh’s Swarnandhra Vision 2047, the government has entrusted us not merely to construct a world-class facility, but to deliver equitable, accessible, and affordable healthcare to our community.”
Employment and Workforce Development
The campus will feature residential quarters for nursing staff, accommodation for visiting faculty, and affordable housing for patients’ families. Upon full operationalization, the facility is projected to generate approximately 9,000 jobs across clinical, technical, administrative, and support sectors, with 1,000 physicians on staff.
Sri PVS Raju, Vice-Chairman of AIG Hospitals, underscored the broader impact: “Projects of this scale create employment across all levels of the healthcare value chain. Our projections estimate 9,000 positions across clinical, technical, administrative and support functions. However, the most enduring contribution lies in our Nursing College and paramedic training centre—these will cultivate a sustainable pipeline of skilled professionals for the entire region. We have prioritized on-campus residential facilities because we recognize the practical barriers many students, particularly women from outlying districts, face in pursuing healthcare education.”
AI-Integrated Healthcare from Inception
