GUWAHATI : The Environment Minister of Assam Parimal Suklabaidiya today attended the inaugural ceremony of the 66th Wildlife Week at Assam State Zoo, Guwahati which commenced with the worship of elephants by Minister himself followed by a rally marched by the elephants and a tableau highlighting the important animals and birds of Assam( prepared by Assam State Zoo).

The ceremonial event was attended by Principal Secretary to Forests and Environment Department Avinash Joshi,IAS; PCCF(Wildlife) Mukesh Sahay,IFS; Chief Wildlife Warden Shri M K Yadava, IFS & other senior ex and present forest officials. Assam State Zoo authority today also felicitated nature conservationists, journalists & noted dignitaries who are involved in the continuous awareness creation for the preservation of the Biodiversity of Assam. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister pressed on the importance of responsibilities towards nature by human beings & urged all to work in the greater interest of the society at large.

He also stated that animals have been an indispensable part of human life since time immemorial and hence we all should respect and treat them equally as Mother Nature treats us all. The Minister also laid the foundation stone of a five storeyed state of art complex that will be set up inside the zoo premises as the new divisional office of the zoo equipped with all necessary facilities, a library, a conference hall, etc. which will be established keeping in mind all nature conservancy aspects and Eco-friendly technology.
