Assam CM attend 17th Bodoland Day celebration in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar: The 17th Bodoland Day was celebrated at Bodofa Nwgwr here in Kokrajhar today with a day- long colourful programme amid a huge gathering of people from all walks of life.

As per the programme, the chief of Bodoland Territorial Council(BTC) Hagrama Mohilary paid homage to the martyrs of Bodoland movement followed by floral tribute to Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma at his statue  in front of the BTC secretariat.

Later an Open meeting was held where Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal attended the function as chief guest.

Addressing the huge public gathering the chief minister said the BJP led coalition government in the state is committed for the safeguard of the language, culture of the indigenous people of the state. Sonowal said he cannot betray the people of Assam who had voted him and his party. “The rights of the indigenous people will be protected and there will be no threat to their language and culture, Sonowal said in reference to the Citizenship Amendment Bill. On the 6th scheduled tribe status to the six communities of Assam, the chief minister assured the existing aborigine indigenous tribal people that the rights of the existing tribal will not be hampered at any cost. 

He also said that the BJP led coalition government has taken up several initiatives for the welfare of the local people of the state. The chief minister also emphasized on the need of teachers and parents motivation to the students. He also urged upon the students to build the mentality for working hard to take advantage of the state of the art infrastructure.

Sonowal also expressed word of praises to BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary saying that under his leadership the Bodoland region has seen lots of development and peaceful atmosphere in the last 15 years of BPF government in BTAD. ‘He(Mohilary) has managed to get the love and support of the people due to his strong initiative for the all-round development of the BTC region, he said. 

Meanwhile in his speech, the BTC chief lauded the initiative taken by the BJP government both in the state and the Centre  for the development of the BTAD. He said in the two and half years of BJP led coalition government in the state, the BTC region has got lots of development projects and funds which was missing in the 15 years of Congress. The BTC chief said the BPF alliance with the BJP will continue in the Lok Sabha election as well and together will work for the all round development of the BTAD and the state.  

The BTC authority also felicitated award winning writers, sports persons and artist who brought laurels to the region through their works.  Two important awards- Promod Chandra Brahma literary, 2019 to Janil Kumar Brahma and Nileswar Brahma Cultural Award, 2019 to Sulekha Basumatary were also presented.

The function was also attended among others by ministers Pramila Rani Brahma, Chandan Brahma, Rihon Daimary, Bodo Sahitya Sabha president Toren Boro, Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary, BTC deputy chief Kampa Borgoyary.
