Assam CM inaugurates North-East Skill Centre We want to make Assam top state by skilling the youth: Sarbananda Sonowal

GUWAHATI : “Assam has large youth talent pool. We want to skill the young generation for harnessing the potential of this human resource and make Assam one of the top states in the country. The youths are not only leaders of tomorrow, but also partners of today. India is driven by its youth as the country has an unrivalled youth population and we must capitalise on this human capital by making Skill India a successful endeavour.” Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today said while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of North-East Skill Centre at Garchuk in the city. Notably, the North-East Skill Centre (NESC) is first of its kind centre in NE which is set up following the MoU signed between the Government of Assam and Government of Singapore in October 2016. NESC is collaboration between Assam Skill Development Mission, Government of Assam and Institute of Technical Education Services (ITEES), Singapore.

The Centre would provide one year diploma courses in four sectors – Beauty and Wellness, Retail Services, Hospitality- Food & Beverage Service and Hospitality- Housekeeping. Leading industrial players would facilitate the training of the students through guest lectures, industry visits, internship with industry etc. Preparing the trainees for national and international job markets through cutting edge training methods of ITEES, Singapore, NESC would ensure holistic development of the trainees by teaching them prevailing industry best practices. Saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been steadfast in his commitment to develop the northeast region at a rapid pace, Sonowal highlighted the landmark investment of nearly Rs 23000 crore by central government to augment the production capacity of Numaligarh Refinery from 3 MTPA to 9 MTPA and setting up of gas pipeline from Barauni to Assam are historic steps which would open up newer avenues of employment for the youth of the state.

For taking advantage of this positive environment the youth of state must empower themselves by acquiring skills in various sectors, he opined. The chief minister also urged the parents and teachers to motivate the young generation to strive hard for establishing themselves as able citizens and guide them through their formative years by sharing information about various disciplines of study and their employment opportunities. The state’s youth must aspire to work in the entire South East Asia and other parts of the world by becoming best in their chosen fields, he asserted.The chief minister also informed that NESC is part of the Skill City project which is being set up at Mangaldoi in technical collaboration of Singapore Government for a total amount of Rs 900 crore. Minister for Skill, Entrepreneur & Employment Chandra Mohan Patowary, MLA Bimal Bora, Commissioner and Secretary of Skill, Entrepreneur & Employment Ashutosh Agnihotri, Mission Director of Assam Skill Development Mission Anand Prakash Tiwari were also present among others.
