Assam Govt lauds the work of the missionaries for the poor and the needy

GUWAHATI :‘Missionaries of Charity symbolizes the values of Mother Teresa whose relentless service to humanity has remained as a glaring example of what humans can do for fellow people. Missionaries of Charity stand for love, care, compassion for the poor and needy, abandoned and the destitute irrespective of caste, creed and religion.’ This was stated by Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary while addressing the silver jubilee celebration of Missionaries of Charity, Jalukbari today. With the objective of carrying the mission of Mother Teresa, this organization was established in Jalukbari on July 31, 1996.

 Unveiling the statue of Mother Teresa, the Minister appreciated the work of the missionaries in taking care of the physically and mentally challenged children in true testimony of Mother Teresa’s service to humanity. ‘It is only love and compassion for one another that will strengthen our social bond’, added Patowary. Quoting Mother Terasa, Kuladhar Saikia, President of Asom Sahitya Sabha said, ‘Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.’ He hoped that love and belongingness for each other will help find inner peace and happiness. Rajiv Bora, Chairman, APSC congratulated the inmates for their exemplary show of talent and discipline and hoped that the Missionaries of Charity will continue their goodwill in caring and supporting the needy.

 Archbishop John Moolachira and Father VM Thomas laid out the activities of the organization and called upon the people to render support for its further growth. To commemorate the occasion, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOC), Noonmati donated 500 fruit bearing saplings for an orchard which was planted by the invited dignitaries. Sanjeev P. Singh, Executive Director, IOC; Dr. Ashok Pansari, Chancellor, Royal Global University and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
