Assam Police busts gang selling fake gold and printing currency, 5 arrested. 2 kg of fake gold recovered.

GUWAHATI: The Assam Police cracked down on a gang that smuggled fake gold and fake currency notes in Biswanath district and arrested a gang of five people. Police have seized fake Indian currency notes, live ammunition, a printing press, two kg fake gold bars among other things. The five suspects have been identified as Amir Ali (36), Mofoozuddin Ahmed (32), Saiful Islam (27), Abidur Rehman (26) and Atiqul Islam (30). Acting on a tip-off, a police team of Vishwanath district led by Additional Superintendent of Police Kulendra Nath Deka and DSP Jayanta Barua launched an operation in Ambari Sijpur area of Biswanath town on Sunday night. Around 12:30 am, the police team raided Ali’s residence, where they found 5 people hiding. Aamir had another house in Kamrabasti, where the police conducted another raid.
The police team seized a machine used to print fake notes, fake notes worth Rs 5.49 lakh, a Swift Dzire vehicle, two motor bikes, 18 rounds of 7.62 mm live ammunition, 51 rounds of point 22 caliber, among other incriminating items. The police also seized two suspected gold bars from the accused. This has been confirmed by Kulendra Nath Deka. On the other hand, in a shocking incident from Nagaon district of Assam, a miscreant stole around 90 rounds of AK-47 ammunition along with a magazine from the house of a police constable. According to reports, the burglars broke into the constable’s house and stole the rifle with three ammunition, 90 live rounds and Rs 15,000 in cash.
The constable, identified as Arunjyoti Saikia, has been suspended from service for negligence.Arunjyoti Saikia was working as a bodyguard of Morigaon APS officer Dhurv Bora, said Leena Doley, Superintendent of Police, Nagaon district. As soon as Saikia was on duty, the thieves entered inside. His family had gone out of the house and when they returned, they saw that Rs 15,000, some jewellery and 90 rounds of ammunition were missing. Doley said an investigation has been initiated and police are inspecting cctv camera footage. The recent incident has created a sensation, as common thieves do not dare to steal bullets from police personnel.
