Bahamas: 28 people from Haiti drowned near Abaco island

In Bahamas, at least 28 people, believed to be illegal migrants from Haiti drowned in waters near the island of Abaco. The tragedy unfolded on Saturday after the vessel carrying them sank. Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) said that it rescued 17 persons from the sea. 

The search and rescue operations are still continuing. It also said that 300 Haitians have been apprehended so far this year for illegally entering into Bahamas. In recent years, thousands of Haitians have fled their country for better opportunities.
