GUWAHATI : Tension between Assam and Mizoram over the border dispute is reported to have once again escalated. The tension started after a blast at a school. In Assam, tension has been reported after a bomb blast at a school in bordering Hailakandi district. The school wall was damaged in the blast, there was no loss of life. Unidentified miscreants detonated an explosion inside a school in Assam near mizoram border on Friday night. The incident comes days after peace was restored along the border following more than a week-long economic blockade imposed by some civil organisations in Assam. According to police, it is located about 500 metres from the border.

In February, two blasts were carried out by miscreants at The Girls Lower Primary School in the same district. Earlier, two schools in neighbouring Cachar district were also bombed.According to Hailakandi SP Gaurav Upadhyay, the blast at the school has been confirmed. Senior officials have reached the spot to take stock of the situation. The bomb blast took place at Gutguti in Hailakandi district. Tension between the two states seems to be rising again after the incident. A wall of this former primary school was damaged due to the blast. It was believed that no one was affected. The school is located on the border of Assam and Mizoram. It was currently closed due to corona crisis and no one was there during the night blast.  It may be recalled that in the past, there was a violent conflict between the two states over the border dispute. Six Assam Police personnel were killed in the incident. Mizoram had then imposed a blockade on the Assam border. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had also discussed the border dispute during her meeting with PM Modi in Delhi recently. Vehicular movement between the two states has resumed from August 9.
