GUWAHATI :In Assam, a young doctor was brutally beaten up by family members after the death of a corona patient in Hojai district. 24 accused involved in the attack have been arrested. Chief Minister Sarma said, ‘A chargesheet will be filed in the case at the earliest. I am personally monitoring this investigation and I promise that justice will definitely be served’. The shocking incident took place at Udali Covid Care Centre in Hojai near Nagaon district.
On Weednesday a doctor on covid duty was attacked by a group of people by forming a mass mob and brutally beating the doctor. According to reports, Dr. Seuj kumar senapati was brutally assaulted by the attendants after the death of a patient in the hospital. Senapati has been shifted to Nagaon Civil Hospital immediately for further treatment where his condition is stated to be critical. Around late in the night, Health Minister Keshav Mahanta reviewed the movement of Dr. Seuz Kumar Senapati and the situation. Mr Mahanta, meanwhile, ordered an inquiry and ordered the police administration of both the districts to initiate an inquiry against the culprits. When asked, Dr. Seuz Kumar Senapati said, “I am currently doing my duty at Kaki MPHC, presently posted at Udali CCC, Hojai. Today was my second day, I had a duty since 1:30 p.m. and I arrived on time. Around 2 p.m., the patient’s family came complaining that the patient had not urinated since morning and so I approached him with a pair of gloves and a catheter. The patient was dead when I reached the bedside. The family members of the patient then started demolishing the property of the hospital, breaking benches and glass. They chased the doctors and we tried to hide wherever possible. They found me and pulled me out and brutally beat me with steel utensils, sticks and limbs. They pulled into the ward and then out. When I came out, I saw that the other doctors and nurse’s comros had been destroyed by the attack. Finally I somehow escaped from there. Taking the matter seriously, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Hemant Vishwa Sharma has ordered an inquiry. Senior police officer GP Singh (Special DGP) immediately took cognizance of the incident and issued his orders to the SP of both the districts. This was the doctor’s first day in rural areas after completing the MBBS course. The victim’s doctor said that the family members of the patient complained to me that the patient was in a critical condition. When I was looking at the patient, I found that he had already died.
