Cache of ammunition recovered in Chirang

Kokrajhar: 792 rounds of live ammunition were recovered by Chirang police from No. 1 Gwjwnpuri under Amguri Police station in Chirang district along the Indo-Bhutan border on Wednesday.

The recovery includes 561 rounds live ammunition of 7.62 mmm and 231 rounds live ammunition of 5.56 mm.

Chirang district Superintendent of Police (SP) Sudhakar Singh said that acting on specific input regarding cache of arms, a massive search operation led by the Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ), Chirang, assisted by SDPO, Bijni, officer incharge of Amguri Police station & Incharge Koila Moila Outpost along with personnel of 156 Bn. CRPF was conducted Wednesday morning in No. 1 Gwjwn Puri under Amguri Police station and the cache of ammunition which was kept concealed inside the ground.

No person has been arrested so far in connection with ammunition recovery, police said.

Assam police have recovered huge consignment of arms and ammunition from different parts of four Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) administered districts of Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri in the last couple of months.
