Inspector suspended for allegedly wearing religious hats on duty

Guwahathi: Police in India are under different state governments and police laws are framed by different state legislatures. Some central laws are also available to police across the country. This law is enacted all over India, it is called the Police Act 1861. The Objective of the Act is to restructure the police and make it more efficient tool for the police to determine and detect crimes. All those recruited under the Police Act 1861 under this Act will be treated as police. That means, all the people who have been recruited for the police force under this Act are all covered by the police meaning. As per section 4 of the Police Act 1861, a police assistant inspector was placed under suspension on Monday for wearing religious hats on the head during duty in Assam and violating the police uniform law.

The name of the suspended police inspector is Mohammad Chowkat Ali and he was wearing his religious cap on the head during duty, which has led to this action. In an order signed by superintendent of Police (Communications) Headquarters (two), police assistant Ali was suspended with immediate effect for indiscipline and intolerable conduct. The order says that they deliberately violated it, which led to this action. Further, departmental proceedings have been initiated against the police assistant Inspector Ali and a show cause notice has also been issued. It may be mentioned that the police uniform violation law is a serious indiscipline under which the policemen can be dealt with. The order against him under section 65 of the Assam Police Act 2007 and section 311 of the Constitution of India and section 764 of the Assam Service Rules 1964 mentions rule 1964 for his undisciplined and undignified conduct.
