Chennai: Casagrand, one of India’s leading real estate developers, is pioneering a distinctive approach to work-life balance by introducing a start-early, finish-early work culture, shifting its workday from the conventional structure to 8 AM–4 PM.  The move is particularly noteworthy coming from the real estate sector, an industry traditionally associated with demanding schedules and an intense, fast-paced work culture. This strategic move places greater emphasis on focused and purposeful work while creating more room for life beyond work. The shift challenges conventional work timings and long-hour work cultures, offering a different perspective on what a productive and sustainable workday can look like.

Employees remain at the heart of Casagrand, with their wellbeing continuing to be one of the company’s foremost priorities. Casagrand recognises that a fulfilling employee experience extends beyond professional responsibilities, with a healthy work-life balance, meaningful routines, personal interests, and time to recharge playing an important role in overall wellbeing. The company is committed to fostering a culture that provides employees with the support, flexibility, and opportunities needed to thrive both professionally and personally. Through its people-first approach, Casagrand seeks to create an environment where employees feel valued, empowered, and motivated, while maintaining a fulfilling and balanced life beyond work.

Beginning the day at 8 AM also allows employees to travel before peak-hour congestion, potentially saving long tiring hours of commuting time each day. With the workday concluding at 4 PM, employees gain greater flexibility in the evenings, allowing them to pursue hobbies, engage in fitness activities, and spend quality time with their loved ones.

Speaking about the initiative, Mr Sumanth Krishna R, Director, Casagrand, said, “Having a defined and fruitful work-life balance is very important for employees to give their best at work. We believe that conventional work hours can leave employees exhausted, especially with the added stress of commuting during heavy traffic hours. Additionally, they often leave little time to pursue recreational and fitness activities or spend quality time with their loved ones. Hence, we have chosen unconventional office hours, as employee wellbeing is integral to building a happy, engaged, and productive workforce. The 8 AM to 4 PM shift is a step towards enabling our employees to make the most of their time beyond work, pursue their interests, and maintain a healthier work-life balance.”

Over the years, Casagrand has undertaken several employee-focused initiatives, including fully sponsored international trips through its Profit-Share Bonanza programme, extensive life and health insurance coverage, an open-door policy, and a vibrant, engaging work culture, to name a few. The move marks another step in Casagrand’s approach to building a more progressive employee culture, while opening up a larger conversation around the future of work. As organisations reassess conventional working models, Casagrand’s 8 AM to 4 PM (start-early, finish-early) approach puts forward a simple proposition: employee wellbeing is integral to building a happy, engaged, and productive workforce.
