Cattle smuggler injured in police firing

Kokrajhar: A cattle smuggler was injured in police firing after he tried to flee from police custody at Sukhanjhora area under Fakiragram police station in Kokrajhar district.

Kokrajhar Additional Superintendent of Police Surjeet Singh Panesar said that the cattle smuggler identified as Sorangi Chinna of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh was injured in police firing while trying to flee from police custody today morning. He said the accused who is involved in international cattle smugglings was brought to Police station and interrogated in connection with Gossaigaon PS case 46/21 U/S 289/379/417/307 IPC R/W sec 11(1)(a)(d)(e)(h) of PCA Act, R/W sec 184/179 MV Act, and was taken to Sukhanjhora area to identify a house of the co-accused person in the area when he snatch a pistol from a policeman and tried to flee hours. The police had to fire to prevent him from escaping. The accused sustained a bullet injury in the leg and was taken to Barpeta Hospital. He is stated to be out of danger.

He said so far 12 persons involved in international cattle smuggling/syndicates have been arrested and police are alert to thwart any kind of antisocial activities.
