Minister Ranoj Pegu visits Kokrajhar, held meeting with Bodo organisations

Kokrajhar: Minister of Education Dr Ranoj Pegu today visited Kokrajhar and held a meeting with All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), Bodo Sahitya Sabha(BSS), Bodo Primary Teachers Association and BTR administration at BTC Secretariat on various issues related to Bodo medium education.

The meeting chaired by BTR Chief executive Member Pramod Boro was also attended by Handloom & Textile, Soil Conservation, Welfare of Plain Tribe & Backward Classes (BTC) Minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma, Director of Bodo medium and other tribal languages Mamata Hojai among others.

Later talking to Reporters after the meeting, the minister said he had a fruitful discussion with various Bodo organisations on issues pertaining to Bodo medium education. He said he had taken notes of the issues and the matter will be resolved through discussion so that the Bodo medium can be developed. He also assured to conduct a special TET exam especially for Bodo medium so that the vacant post can be filled up.

On the inclusion of Bodo language in Assam Judicial Service as per the spirit of the Assam official language Act, 1960, (Amended Act, 2020), he said the matter will be resolved after discussion with the chief minister.

On the issue related to the evaluation formula for examinees of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC)/Assam High Madrassa (AHM) and Higher Secondary (HS) examinations, 2021, the Assam Education Minister said that the issue can be resolved through discussion with student organisations.

He said that for students who want to improve their scores, an optional exam will be held by September if the situation becomes conductive. Otherwise, the optional exam will be held later. He said that for the sake of their professional career, the students should appear in the special board examinations. The students who are not satisfied with their results declared based on evaluation of the formula will also be able to appear for the special examination.

The government on Thursday announced the evaluation formula after the two high-powered committees comprising renowned academicians submitted their reports and recommendations on assessing examinees of the HSLC/AHM and HS examinations in the absence of formal physical examination this year due to the prevailing pandemic situation.

The ABSU president Dipen Boro expressed satisfaction over the outcome of the talk and thanked the state government for taking initiative to resolve the various long p[ending problems of the Bodo medium education. The ABSU submitted a 22 points memorandum to the education minister on implementation of Clause 6.3 of BTR Accord the provincialisation of (i) schools and colleges established in BTAD, and (ii) Bodo medium schools outside BTAD, as per special need and requirement & creation of posts and appointment of lecturers in Bodo department in colleges outside BTAD as a special consideration.

The minister also held a meeting with vice chancellor of Bodoland University Prof. Laishram Laddu Singh and visited the Central Institute of Technology, Kokrajhar. He also visited the “Bodofa House” office of All Bodo Students Union.
