CBI raided residence of AG’s official in Imphal, seized assets worth Rs 1.87 cr

GUWAHATI : Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided the residence of a senior accounts officer at the AG office In Manipur and seized more assets than known sources of income. A team of CBI ACB Imphal branch led by SP Kharang raided the residence of a senior accounts officer on Friday. The search lasted till Saturday 4 pm.

 Senior accounts officer is Konzengbam Ibothem in Sagolband Meino Lerak. The CBI seized cash from their house for Rs. 74, 45930, Rs. 52, 89000, 127 ATM cards, 183 passbooks, 129 cheque books and 130 pension books. The source said that the raids have been raided at every nook and corner. No one has been allowed to go inside until late at night and nobody is allowed to go out. However, no media was allowed to go inside and photograph. But neighbours say they could hear hammers and iron against the walls of the building. His family is well known for pension book mortgages.

A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) official said, the agency has recovered 130 pension passbooks with ATM number of various pensioners and other criminal documents related to construction of a multi-storey building, purchase of another building, investment documents in agricultural land, LIC, banks and other financial institutions. The agency had registered a case against him for possession of alleged disproportionate assets worth Rs 2.60 crore under several sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, the official said. It was alleged that the accused had earned huge assets both movable and immovable in his name and in the name of his family members during the period from 1st January 2016 to 30th September 2020, which was inconsistent with his known sources of income. No one is yet to know where the CBI officer took the accounts officer, Konjongbam Ibothemco, on Saturday late night.
