Haflong : The newly posted Chief Conservator of Forest Dima Hasao, Sri Muanthang Tungnung, IFS while expressing concern over the recent killing of white deer, increasing trend of jhuming (shifting cultivation) in Dima Hasao has appealed to the people of Dima Hasao to cooperate with the forest department to curb the menace of deforestation in the district.
Talking media persons Tungnung said the district of Dima Hasao is bestowed with the natural beauty and bounty with highest forest cover and also with abundance of flora and fauna but perhaps due to lack of farsightedness, people ignore the importance of such natural wealth. To maintain proper ecosystem, presence of all the natural wealth should be preserved at any cost for the next generation, therefore people’s cooperation is must.
‘From our side we are organising mass awareness campaign, distributing leaflets detailing the wildlife Act and also importance of preservation of wild life and forest’, he added.
