Bengaluru : CoinSwitch today announced the launch of SafeSwitch, a public awareness initiative designed to help people recognise common online scams and to promote safer digital habits. Launched during National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the initiative aims to make cyber safety education more accessible through practical tools and interactive learning.

SafeSwitch is built around the principle of “Stop. Check. Verify.” It encourages people to pause before responding to suspicious messages or offers, verify information through reliable sources, and exercise caution before sharing personal details or making payments. The initiative focuses on helping people recognise warning signs of online fraud and make more informed decisions while using digital services.

According to data from the Ministry of Home Affairs, India recorded 24.02 lakh financial cyber fraud complaints in 2025, with reported losses of ₹22,495 crore. These figures highlight the importance of public awareness and equipping people with the knowledge to recognise potential threats across digital platforms.

SafeSwitch features an interactive, 10-question quiz based on common online fraud scenarios. The quiz helps participants understand how scams operate, identify potential red flags and consider appropriate responses to suspicious situations. Participants receive a certificate upon completing the quiz.

The initiative also includes a website checker that allows users to check websites they suspect may be illegitimate before sharing sensitive information or proceeding with transactions. The tool is intended to serve as an additional precaution and should not be treated as a guarantee that a website is safe.

CoinSwitch is also conducting internal and external awareness activities to engage employees, users and the wider public. These activities focus on common fraud patterns, online safety practices and the importance of verifying messages, links and websites before taking action. The campaign also seeks to raise awareness of 1930, the national helpline for reporting cyber financial fraud, and encourage people who fall victim to such fraud to report it promptly.

Commenting on this, Ashish Singhal, Co-founder, CoinSwitch & Lemonn, said, “Cyber safety is not just about the technology we use, it is also about the decisions we make online. No single tool can eliminate the risk of online fraud. But accessible education and simple verification habits can help people make more informed decisions. Through SafeSwitch, we aim to complement broader cyber safety efforts by giving people practical ways to learn about common scams, assess suspicious websites and understand the importance of staying vigilant online.”

As digital services become an increasingly integral part of everyday life, awareness of online fraud and the ability to recognise suspicious activity remain important. Through SafeSwitch, CoinSwitch aims to contribute to public understanding of cyber risks and encourage more vigilant digital behaviour.
