Congress issues show cause notice to MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed who described martyrs as killers, seeks reply in three days

Guwahati: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary Babita Sharma has issued a show cause notice to Baghbar MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed. The notice accused Ali of making communally provocative statements on media and social media platforms by moving away from the party line. The show cause notice said that the statements made by him before the upcoming assembly bypolls are politically motivated and damaging the image of the party. The notice said that despite earlier warnings, his statements against the martyrs of Assam movement on September 29 and 30 were unacceptable and against party discipline.

This strengthens the politics of communal division of the BJP.Sherman Ali has also been termed as an agent of bjp in the show cause notice. The notice says that due to its proximity to Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma, the ruling party is making such sponsored statements to him to end communal harmony in Assam. The show cause notice asks Sherman Ali to clarify his position within 3 days. It is learnt that Sherman Ali had made an explosive statement about Assam movement martyr Dayanath Sharma. He had said that Dayanath Sharma was not a martyr but a murderer. Ali had also accused him of killing people of East Bengal origin in 1983. This was followed by an atmosphere of excitement and anger across the state.
