Arunachal Pradesh: 3 districts adjoining Assam declared as disturbed areas by the Government of India

 GUWAHATI : The Union Home Ministry (Home Ministry) has granted ‘disturbed area’ status for the six-month Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act for three districts of Arunachal Pradesh adjoining Assam. These districts are Tirap, Changlang and Langding (TCL). Now, therefore, areas under the jurisdiction of Namsai and Mahadevpur police stations in Namsai district of Arunachal Pradesh bordering Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts of Arunachal Pradesh and the state of Assam have been declared as ‘disturbed areas’ from 01.10.2021 to 31.03.2022 under Section 3 of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958.

“The notification says. These areas were declared “disturbed” in view of the review of insurgent activities and law and order situation there. This is also the first time that AFSPA will not be applicable to two other districts- Lower Dibang and Lohit in view of better security situation. The Ministry recently conducted another inquiry into the law and order situation in Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts of Arunachal Pradesh as well as the area under the jurisdiction of four police stations in other districts bordering Assam.
