Covid 19 has added to mental health issues

Mangaldai : The Covid 19 pandemic has also added to the different mental health issues afflicting the people of the State . Over the last one year, the mental health counseling wing of 104 Helpline has reportedly been receiving above 650 cases on an average per month and among them ten percent cases are related to Covid 19 positive patients .

In a bid to check this growing cases of mental health due to the Covid induced situation , SATRA , a Sipajhar , Darrang based leading NGO has come forward with a free tele consultation service by promoting a volunteers group of experienced professional in the field including Psychologist , Psychiatrist and Social Entrepreneurs . Dr Sabiha Alam Choudhury ( 76700 26969 ) , Assistant Professor , Department of Mizoram University , Aizawl , Dr Pallavi Sarma ( 98640 85125) , Protection Officer , District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Darrang , Dr Iftikar Hussain (86389 51606) , Neuropsychiatrist , Nani Saikia (70021 00736) , Social Entrepreneur and Executive Director , SATRA and Kamruz Z Hoque ( 9101039597 ) , Sr Programme Manager and Coordinator of this volunteer group will be available for direct communication in their respective phone nos at any time in WhatsApp for all the five experts but in a fixed time for telephonic conversation on each day .

 The communication may be made in three languages i.e. Assamese , English and Hindi . The information has been provided by the NGO in a press statement issued on May 25. Talking to this correspondent coordinator of the group Kmaruz Z Hoque has further informed that apart from the counseling and information on mental health issues Covid related other emergency services including information on Covid Care Centre or hospital facilities in Darrang and Guwahati will also be provided by them .
