Cows to become base for economic self sufficiency – CM Chouhan

Bhopal: Chief Minister  Shivraj Singh Chouhan said during the virtual meeting of the Cabinet formed for the conservation and promotion of gau-dhan, that we have faith and reverence towards gauvansh. In ancient times, cows and bulls were the basis of rural economy. Even today, the work of cow protection and promotion can become the base for economic self sufficiency.

The state government is committed to build Atmanirbhar Madhya Pradesh. In this direction, the sacred cow will strengthen the economy. Cow milk is nectar. Cow milk can be used extensively to eliminate malnutrition. Cow dung is lifeline for agriculture. By using it to make manure, the use of chemical fertilizer can be reduced. By manufacturing gau-kasht on a large scale from cow dung and using it, the use of wood can be reduced. The forests can be saved. Gau-mutre is used to make  pesticides and medicines.

Full use of gaumutra, cow dung, milk

The state government will use milk, cow dung and gau-mutra alongwith with cow protection and promotion for human welfare with total seriousness. Chief Minister  Chouhan said that the Departments of Animal Husbandry, Agriculture, Panchayat and Rural Development, Home, Forest and Revenue will be entrusted with the responsibility of the conservation and promotion of cows. He said that efforts will be made to ensure that Madhya Pradesh sets an example in cow protection and promotion in the country. Following decisions have been taken in the Cabinet Committee meeting formed for cow protection and promotion.

Better functioning of gaushalas

The gaushalas approved under Mukhya Mantri Gau-Seva Yojana will be operated by the government with the support of competent and willing social organizations and self-help groups. Gaushalas will be run with public cooperation. Cess may be levied to raise financial resources if necessary for running gaushalas and for cow protection and promotion. While imposing this cess, care will be taken not to let the financial burden fall on the common man.

Under the plan of the Government of India to set up Gobar gas plants, such plants can be installed in villages. Connections will be given to rural families through these gobar gas plants.

Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Science Centre will be established on the lines of Agricultre Science Centre in Salaria cow-Sanctuary in Agar-Malwa district through Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University, Jabalpur.

Action plan for conservation of cow breeds of the state

Madhya Pradesh has four native breeds of cattle – Malvi, Nimari, Kankatha and Gaolo. An action plan will be made for their conservation and promotion. A plan will also be made to increase milk production through them.

In urban areas, the entire responsibility of providing shelter and maintenance of stray cattle will be entrusted to the urban bodies keeping in mind their financial resources. This will ensure shelter to the stray cattle who wander on the roads and also prevent road accidents.

Grassland will be developed in the degraded forests falling under the Forest Department. Fodder production will be increased and sent to gaushalas.
