Distribution of land pattas to 1,301 Indigenous tribal families in Dhekiajuli as per the Forest Rights Act, 2006

GUWAHATI : The Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Irrigation, Government of India, Ashok Singhal was the guest of honour at the distribution ceremony of land certificates to 1301 Khilonjiya families of Sonitpur district as per the Forest Rights Act, 2006.

The minister for handlooms, textiles and silk and Bodoland Welfare department of the state government, U.G. Brahma, and btr-pradhan, were present on the occasion. Speaking at the special function held at the Sudemjuli Primary School ground in Dhekiajuli constituency, Minister Singhal said that in fulfilling the long-standing expectations of the bhumiputra tribal people of the state living in Bongaon or Tongia village in the foothills of the forest area, the state government today performed a great job by giving land pattas to more than thirteen hundred families of Dhekiajuli constituency.Stating that this work has been made possible due to the strong leadership and special promptness of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, he said that after the present government came to power, through the implementation of the Forest Rights Act, 2006, efforts have been made to give land rights to the indigenous people of the state. Minister Singhal said pattas would be given to another 600-700 persons next month and the process would continue.

Highlighting the strong steps taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma to bring back lasting peace to the Bodo land, Minister Singhal said that through the Bodo Peace Accord signed in 2020, the government has been able to establish peace in the region and bring all the youth with arms in their hands back to the mainstream. With the joint efforts of the state government and btr administration, now the people of Bodoland have been able to move forward on the path of development. As mla of Dhekiajuli constituency, he expressed his deep gratitude to the Chief Minister for the love and affection shown to the people of Dhekiajuli constituency in the past. Addressing the meeting Minister U G Brahma said that a long struggle of the people of the area for their land rights has come to an end today. He thanked the government and the district administration for this step. Speaking on the occasion BTR Chief Pramod Boro said that at the end of a long struggle the tribal people have been able to get land titles today. He thanked Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma from the bottom of his heart for this great step. On the other hand he also expressed his gratitude to Dhekiajuli MLA Ashok Singhal for the promptness taken in this regard by taking realistic decisions. Delivering a welcome address on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur District Deb Kumar Mishra said that with the special initiative of the Chief Minister and local MLAs, 1301 people could be given pattas today after 2008 through a long administrative process.
