Flood situation further deteriorates in Bihar

In Bihar, flood situation has further deteriorated  following torrential rains in catchment areas of Nepal and  heavy discharge of water from Gandak barrage. 2 lakh 15 thousand cusec water has been discharged from Gandak barrage this evening and water level is increasing rapidly. In view of this people living in low lying areas have been advised to move to higher places.
 
Over 78 lakh people spread over 16 districts  are reeling under the impacts of floods. Darbhanga district remained the worst hit with more than 20 lakh people affected by the floods followed by over 15 lakh in Muzaffarpur and more than 10 lakh each in East Champaran and Khagaria districts. Darbhanga- Samastipur rail section of East Central railway remain suspended on 21 st day. 38 people have lost their lives in flood related incidents in last 24 hours.
 
33 teams of NDRF and SDRF are carrying out relief and rescue operations. Over five lakh 50 thousand people have been evacuated so far. About 13 thousand people have taken shelter in relief camps.1,006 community kitchen centres have been set up  to provide food to affected people.
 
Water level of Bagmati,Gandak,Kamla Balan and Adhwara group of rivers is flowing above danger mark. Met department has predicted heavy rainfall in catchment areas of rivers in north Bihar in next 24 hours.
