Floodwaters from Ganga and Sone wreak havoc in Bihar

Patna: In Bihar, floodwaters from Ganga and Sone have started wreaking havoc in Patna, Buxar,Munger, Bhagalpur and Khagaria districts of the state.

Low-lying areas these districts have been submerged. Surging water of Ganga is engulfing fresh areas. People in affected areas have been shifted to higher places. Twenty six teams of NDRF and SDRF have been pressed into relief and rescue operations. Five lakh 50 thousand people have been evacuated so far. Over five thousand people have taken shelter in relief camps. Community kitchen centres have been set up to provide food to affected people.

Over 83 lakh 65 thousand people spread over 13,333 Panchayats of 16 districts are reeling under the impact of floods. Darbhanga district remained the worst hit with more than 20 lakh people affected by the floods. There is no improvement in Saran and Gopalganj as surging water of Gandak in spreading in fresh areas.

Ganga, Kosi, Bagmati, Kamlabalan and Gandak are flowing above danger mark. Met department predicts heavy rainfall with thunderstorm in many parts of the state in next 48 hours.
